These four core concepts of Godliness, anointing, thoughtfulness, and excellence have emerged more than they were figured out. The joy, as with many things in the Kingdom of Christ, has been in the discovery. One such epiphany was the realization that there are striking parallels with what Jesus identified as the greatest commandment in Matthew 22:36-40:
Love the Lord your God with all of your...
heart,
soul,
mind,
strength.
We don't think it's a stretch at all to say these line up with our core characteristics of worship leadership:
strength - excellence with our bodies, playing and singing
mind - thoughtfulness in planning, preparing, and presenting worship gatherings
soul - Godliness applies to our whole self, often described throughout Christian scriptures as the soul
heart - anointing is God's power for God's task, and there is usually a feeling associated with that... and a decision to walk in God's power, not our own.
When we use our hearts, minds, souls, and bodies to lead the people of God into the presence of God, we are helping them love Him. Our leadership directs the Bride of Christ to be the beloved and to love their Savior.
It isn't magic. It's not just mystical. It's obedience. It's surrender. It's faith.
It's from Jesus, about Jesus, for Jesus.
So let's commit ourselves afresh to be, become, and lead as people that God would look at and see evidence of Godliness, anointing, thoughtfulness, and excellence.
For the glory of God, the building up of the church, and to testify to the not-yet-redeemed.
It's the gateway to powerful worship.
Relay Worship is committed to helping those in our tribe grow in all four areas: Godliness, anointing, thoughtfulness, and excellence. If you want to know more about specific practices you can participate in to help, please reach out to us!
